For everyone else, the Caribbean island of Saint Marie is a paradise. For DI Richard Poole, it’s his personal hell. The story begins when a British policeman is found murdered inside a locked panic room at the estate of Lord and Lady Salcombe. He successfully solves the case but is then tricked into staying as the new detective inspector, much to his horror.
